10 Foods That Help You Sleep Better While You're Trying To Lose Weight
Written by: Crystal Foster
For years, I have struggled to lose weight and struggled to get a good nights sleep. I had no idea that the two were actually related. My blog last week was about the importance of getting enough, when you're trying to lose weight. Experts suggest at least 7 hours of sleep a night.
Since I prefer to do things naturally, I looked up foods that can help you sleep better. I specifically looked for healthier foods. Of course a high amount of carbs can make you sleepy, but I try to limit the amount of carbs I take in a day. You want your body to burn off fat not excess sugar. The foods in the list contain certain things, or helps your body to release certain hormones to help aid in sleep. Here is the list of 10 foods:
- Almonds - Contains Melatonin
- Walnuts - Contains Magnesium
- Turkey - Contains Tryptophan
- Tart Cherries or the juice - Contain Melatonin
- Omega -3 Fatty Fish - Contain Serotonin
- Oranges - Contain Vitamin C
- Kiwifruit - Contain Melatonin
- Warm Milk - Contains Melatonin
- Grapefruit - Contains Vitamin C
- Bananas - Contain Magnesium
Experts suggest that you snack on some of these about an hour before going to bed. They should help you sleep better without interruption. Keep in mind that the more you sleep, the more calories you burn. I myself have tried it with oranges, that contain vitamin C and have found that it works for me.
I also take multivitamins, because a lack of certain vitamins and minerals in your body can also cause you to to have uneasy or interrupted sleep. Other outside factors like stress can also affect your ability to sleep well at night. If you have a lot on your mind before you go to sleep, it's best to clear your mind before you try to lie down for the night. When I feel stressed before bed, I will meditate to help clear my head.
